He appeared in many films, including Wonder Man 1944, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty 1946, and Hans Christian Andersen 1952. He achieved success on Broadway in Lady in the Dark 1940. He also starred on television, had his own show 1963-67, toured for UNICEF, and guest-conducted major symphony orchestras in later years.
